Description: The THAAD (Theater High-Altitude Area Defense) radar system is a long range, X-band, phased array, solid-state radar. It supports the THAAD air defense system providing long range detection of incoming theater ballistic missiles. The THAAD system seeks to engage ballistic missiles at ranges of 200 km horizontally and 150 km vertically. One of this radars was put into operation in January 2012 at Malatya, Turkey, as part of NATO missile defense effort against a potential ballistic missile attack coming from Iran.
