Description: The ASARS-2B is a new version of the ASARS-2 radar ordered by the US Air Force to outfit the U-2S high altitude reconnaissance aircraft under a $320 million contract. The ASARS-2B is equipped with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) antenna to double the surveillance range compared with the ASARS-2A synthetic aperture radar while keeping the same resolution. The new high resolution sensor completed flight tests in early 2019 and would be ready for deployment in 2020.
