Description: The Russian Air Force Container is a ground-based, over-the-horizon radar designed to detect small and highly maneuverable airborne threats at ultra-long ranges. This air surveillance radar system is able to detect unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles at ranges in excess of 3,000 kilometers. Testing on the new Container radar, located near the town of Kovylkino in Russia's republic of Mordovia, started on December 2, 2013. The Russian Ministry of Defense expects the new radar system to achieve fully operational status by the end of 2015. Thereafter Russia might deploy a comprehensive network of radar sites to cover its huge territory and beyond its borders.
