Description: The E-Scan is an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar system being developed for the Eurofighter/Typhoon multi-role fighter aircraft. The BAE Systems E-Scan Extended Assessment Phase (EAP) is expected to complete in 2017 paving the way for the development of a fully functional E-Scan by 2020. The new radar will enhance the air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities of the Typhoon fleet. Radar 1+ is the E-Scan development and integration program, managed by NATO NETMA agency, onboard the Typhoon IP5 test aircraft. IP5 with E-Scan made its maiden flight in early 2014. The Royal Air Force (RAF) plans call for the deployment of the E-Scan on its Typhoon jets under the Future Force 2020 project. In November 2014 Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain awarded a contract to Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH and NETMA to develop the Captor-E AESA radar for the Eurofighter Typhoon.
