Description: The United States (US) Navy's Enterprise Air Surveillance Radar (EASR) is a research program intended to deliver a replacement for the SPS-48 and SPS-49 air surveillance radars currently on board US Navy amphibious ships and aircraft carriers. In November 2013 the Office of Naval Research (ONR) awarded Northrop Grumman an 18-month contract for the study of the EASR requirement. The new radar system will leverage technologies from the AN/TPS-80 Ground /Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) program. The radar replacement might be ready for service on board US Navy ships by the end of this decade. As of March 2015 the US Navy expects the new radar system to become operational on the USS Kennedy and the LHA 8 beginning in 2023 and 2020 respectively.
