Description: The EL/M-20600 is an all-weather Radar Targeting Pod (RTP) developed and manufactured by IAI's Elta Systems Group to operate in day and night conditions penetrating clouds, rain, smoke, smog and fog. This pod was designed to support tactical fighter aircraft in air-to-surface attack missions delivering high resolution radar imagery. It was developed as an affordable alternative to proven electro-optical targeting pods for long-range, standoff operations. This Image Intelligence (IMINT) system provides real-time tactical reconnaissance, high precision strike and post raid assessment with the carrier aircraft operating at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet (15,200 meters).
The EL/M-20600 incorporates Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) technologies. This combination allows all-weather target acquisition of both moving and stationary items. Once a target has been acquired, the data can be used by the carrier aircraft or transferred via a net-centric real-time data-link to other aircraft in the same formation/network and/or to a ground exploitation station (GES). The bi-directional line-of-sight data link has a range in excess of 250 nautical miles (460 km). The EL/M-2060P variant has been designed for combat aircraft applications while EL/M-2060T is suitable for integration on transport aircraft and business jets.
The EL/M-2060T reconnaissance system for transport aircraft is provided with an airborne exploitation station (AES) in addition to the data link and GES which are common to the -2060P version. Both systems also accept the option the record the data on-board. Operating modes include: Strip - fast coverage of large areas at stand-off ranges with sufficient mapping detail for target detection; Spot - high resolution examination of a designated area of interest for target classification; and Strip/GMTI - moving targets are highlighted on-top of the Strip SAR image. The EL/M-2060P radar pod adds 590 kg to the combat aircraft.
