Description: Elta's EL/M-2221 is a fire control radar developed as part of Barak-1 naval air defense system used on the Israel Navy missile boats. It is based on an extremely accurate, monopulse, dual-band, Pulse Doppler radar. Dual-band comprises X- and Ka-band. EL/M-2221 design permits to track a highly maneuverable, air or surface target while guiding missiles or directing guns which would intercept the target. Typically, EL/M-2221 can execute a fighter target acquisition at 30 km, a missile target at 15 km and surface target acquisition up to radar horizon. Fire control of a missile against an airborne target is effective up to 10 kilometers. Directing guns' fire against a surface target is effective at 20 km but this figure drops dramatically against an airborne target to only 4 km. An aircraft is by far more faster than any fast attack boat.

The X- and Ka-band are used to guide missiles while for directing guns is done using X-band. Despite at its inception EL/M-2221 was designed to guide surface-to-air missiles, guidance of surface-to-surface missiles is possible. Elta is offering EL/M-2221 radar system fitted with a single band (X-band) antenna or X/Ka-band antenna. The whole system weighs around 1,500 kg including antenna hardware, processing and control units.
