Description: The Lockheed Martin Pathfinder is a state-of the-art pilotage and navigation sensor turret for cargo and utility aircraft targeted primarily for the US Army's cargo and utility helicopter fleets. The sensor package is based on combat-proven technology from the M-TADS/PNVS Pilot Night Vision Sensor (PNVS) sensor aboard the AH-64D Apache helicopter. The turret mounts readily on the helicopter's chin using a kit consisting of three line-replaceable modules. Eleven of the 14 line-replaceable modules are entirely common with the M-PNVS system facilitating the logistics sustainment. Pathfinder increases pilot confidence, reduces pilot workload, and provides safe-flight capabilities in diminished flight visibility conditions such as brownouts, whiteouts, darkness and adverse weather conditions.

The low risk Pathfinder significantly increases situational awareness and reduces pilot workload through an eyes-forward, eyes-out, head-steerable, wide field-of-view, helmet-mounted display. Its forward-looking infrared (FLIR) system has been designed and developed specifically to support terrain flight and critical operations in degraded landing areas. Its high definition resolution allows pilots to fly at safer altitudes and airspeeds while providing necessary information to complete complex missions while avoiding obstacles such as wires, poles, and trees. As of July 2008, the Pathfinder was undergoing flight evaluation aboard an US Army Reserve's HH-60L helicopter at Felker Army Airfield, Fort Eustis, Virginia.
