Description: The Podsolnukh, Sunflower in English, is a short-wave, over-the-horizon, surface-wave radar developed by NPK NIIDAR and capable of detecting and tracking stealth fifth generation airplanes or any other aircraft designed to avoid detection. The radar system has a maximum range of 500 kilometers against airborne objects and 400 kilometers against sea targets. The gigantic radar antenna is five kilometers long and five meters tall. It can detect track up to 300 sea surface objects and 100 airborne objects simultaneously operating in automatic mode. A single Podsolnukh can be set in place in just 10 days needing only three men to keep it operational. The Russian Ministry of Defense intends to deploy several Podsolnukh radar stations in the Arctic and on the Southern and Western borders. As of July 2016, three stations are operational at the Sea of Okhotsk, Sea of Japan and Caspian Sea.
