Description: The Thales Searchwater is an Airborne Surveillance and Control (ASaC) sensor designed for integration onto both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. It comprises a high-power Pulse Doppler radar integrated with Mk XII IFF, ESM and an INS/GPS navigation system. Searchwater radar provides long range warning and detection against high and low level attack over land, sea & air as well as a sophisticated maritime surveillance system providing detection of very small, fleeting targets, such as jet skis and periscopes, against high background clutter. Besides, the Searchwater is also capable of delivering over the horizon targeting, search and rescue (SAR) and coastal surveillance in support of special military and law enforcement operations.

The Royal Navy has deployed the Searchwater ASaC radar integrated onto the SH-3 Sea King helicopter (Sea King Mk7 ASaC) onboard the Invincible-class aircraft carriers. It provides organic fleet protection (Sea Shield) and power projection (Sea Strike). The Searchwater 2000 is an upgraded version being offered for integration onto the AgustaWestland AW101 helicopter as the replacement for the aging Sea King Mk7 ASaC fleet by 2016. The palletized Searchwater 2000 radar is deployed through the rear ramp aperture when in operation and stows in the cabin when not in use. It features fully integrated Link 16 command and control capability and extended 360-degree coverage.
