Description: The Seaspray 7000E is an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) multi-mode radar system being developed by BAe System to meet the high demanding requirements of airborne ground surveillance. It has been built on the production standard Seaspray 3600 Commercial of the Shelf (COTS), open architecture processor with all the functionality managed by software. The Seaspray 7000E radar was unveiled at Farnborough International 2002 entering flight trials in 2004 on the BAe's Jetstream 31 aircraft over Pershore in the United Kingdom. During the trials, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery is being generated and downlinked to a ground station.

The radar system consists of two line replaceable units (LRU), the COTS processor and the AESA antenna. The resulting radar system in lighter and more reliable than other similar systems while offering multi-mode capabilities. Maintenance costs for Seaspray 7000E are lower than current systems as well. BAe Systems expects that the Seaspray 7000E radar will meet the requirements of airborne surveillance over land on sea installed on a wide range of airborne platforms (helicopters, airplanes and UAVs). The air-to-air surveillance mode is also possible. Battlefield surveillance, maritime patrol and maritime surveillance will be carried out by this radar system.
