Description: Seaspray 7500E is an electronically scanned array capable of detecting small targets at sea with adverse weather conditions. The radar system is capable of detecting harmful oil spills, tracking ice flows, and providing en route weather avoidance. Moreover, Seaspray 7500E offers greatly enhanced performance, available features, and life cycle cost compared with conventional mechanically scanned radar. It belongs to Seaspray family of radars developed by SELEX sensors and airborne systems, a Finmeccanica's subsidiary.
On 9 September 2005, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) awarded SELEX a $67 million contract for the HC-130H aircraft radar upgrade program. This seven years program was meant to provide Seaspray 7500E radar system to the 27 USCG aircraft fleet. Prototype evaluation and testing was set to commence in October 2005 with the conversion work expected to be complete by 2012. Thus, the Seaspray 7500E would become the primary sensor for the HC-130H long range maritime surveillance aircraft which are deployed in extreme weather conditions to execute search and rescue, law enforcement, humanitarian relief, environmental protection and maritime resource management.
