Description: The Silent Watch is an Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) Distributed Aperture System (DAS) designed to enable a surface vessel to sense and track both airborne and surface threats simultaneously and autonomously. The spectrum of threats detected by this system includes surface ships and aircraft as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. It is a derivate of the EO DAS sensor developed by Northrop Grumman for the F-35 fifth generation fighter aircraft. The Silent Watch threat warning system provides 360-degree situational awareness for manned and unmanned surface and submarine platform applications. The system was first demonstrated successfully in April 2012 onboard the Sperry Star III research vessel. The Silent Watch system comprises multiple EO/IR sensors operating day/night and delivering high resolution, near-real-time images that can be displayed and relayed to friendly forces.
