Description: The Selex Galileo THETIS (Thermal Tank Infrared System) electro-optic sensor has been designed to provide tanks and combat vehicles with observation and accurate firing capabilities at night or in the presence of smoke or in other bad visibility conditions. It comprises several modular self-contained functional units including infrared sensor, cooling system, gunner/commander control/display panel and ballistic computer. The system's installation does not require armor modifications. The THETIS imaging system can be configured as the tank's main fire control system (FCS) or as anight sighting unit for the upgrading of an exiting FCS.
In November 2008, Galileo Avionica was awarded a 74 million Euro contract for the supply of THETIS sensors for Italian (30%) and export customers (70%). The THETIS is suitable for upgrading main battle tanks such as Leopard 1 and Ariete.
