Description: The TPS-70 is a versatile, long-range, altitude finding, deployable/transportable, multi-mission, 3D solid state radar designed to support air defense systems, air surveillance for general purposes. It features a high survivability against anti-radiation missiles thanks to its low sidelobe antenna and solid state electronics. The system operates independent of adverse weather and jamming environments. The combat-proven TPS-70 radar can be deployed stand-alone, remotely controlled, and as part of a network. Combined with information coming from other radar systems, it provides an integrated picture of the aerial battlefield for theater commanders. It was first deployed during the Gulf War in 1991 and in the former Yugoslavia conflicts in the 1990s.
The US Air Force uses the TPS-70 mobile, long range radar under the AN/TPS-75 designation. The same radar system is being operated by more than 20 countries worldwide. Raytheon was awarded a $13 million contract by the US Air Force to upgrade AN/TPS-75 radars for Hill Air Force Base, Utah, on September 30, 2004. The upgrade is expected to be complete by 2009 extending the radar's operational life span.
