Description: The Ultra-LiIht SonicS Enhanced System (ULISSES) is an advanced acoustic detection system developed by Leonardo to detect and track submerged submarines off the coast. The ULISSES system uses an array of sonobuoys and dipping sonars (up to 64 items) to detect and track submarines using software supplied by Ultra Electronics. The sonobuoys are supplied by Ultra Electronics and the dipping sonars by L-3 Communications. The system including processor, transmitter, receiver and recorder weighs less than 20 kilograms being suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), manned airplanes and helicopters. The ULISSES system was first tested successfully in the fall of 2019 and is expected to be delivered to Italy before the end of 2020.
