Description: The Vanguard is a multi-function, open architecture, scalable radar system developed by Northrop Grumman to serve as solution for multiple platforms and missions. The new radar is based upon panel structures assembled along building blocks. Each panel can operate independently of each other or can operate along the other panels to form a larger radar array. Besides, each panel can be replaced in the field in the event of damage or malfunction. So far, the Vanguard radar can operate in air-to-ground modes such as Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI), Dismounted Moving Target Indicator (DMTI), and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mapping. The radar underwent testing beginning in April 2017. Northrop Grumman unveiled the new Vanguard radar system in September 2018.
