SPS-48E can operate in an intense Countermeasures environment due to variation of working frequency. This radar is not only capable of detecting and tracking aircraft and missiles, but even it supports RAM, ESSM and Standard missiles.

The AN/SPS-48E is operational onboard US Navy's aircraft carriers, LHD and LHA ships and, in the future, it will be provided to the LPD-17-class assault ships.
