EL/M-2238

Origin: Israel

Contractor/s: Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI)

Description: Elta's EL/M-2238 is a Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (STAR) developed for corvette and frigate applications conducting both surface and long-range air search. In addition to the search mode, EL/M-2238 offers target acquisition capability for both surface and airborne targets. It is based on coherent S-band pulse Doppler 3D multibeam and multimode search radar technology. It can work in conjunction with countermeasures systems such as ECM or chaff/flare systems.

EL/M-2238 radar system is able to detect a fighter-sized aircraft at ranges of up to 150 kilometers, surface vessels up to radar horizon and incoming missile threat at up to 25 km. It features Track-While-Scan (TWS) capability which allows for monitoring simultaneously multiple airborne and surface targets.

Elta Systems is offering this radar system fitted with single or two faces antennas. The two faces antenna provides double update rate as well as long range surveillance and early warning against incoming threats capabilities simultaneously. The radar antenna itself is available in medium and large sizes. A single face, medium size antenna radar system is about 2,100 kg and has a detection range of up to 200 km. A dual face, large size antenna EL/M-2238 weighs 4,400 kg and has a detection range of up to 350 km.
