Description: The SMART-S Mk2 is a medium to long-range, 3D multi-beam, E/F-band, volume search radar suitable for both air surveillance, helicopter guidance and target designation in the littoral environment at ranges of up to 250 km and up to 70-degree in elevation. The radar target set available for the SMART-S includes aircraft, small surface vessels, helicopters and anti-ship missiles. Thales Naval Systems designed the SMART-S Mk2 for optimal use in conjunction with the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM). In addition, SMART-S Mk2 with Seapar multi-function radar generate a powerful sensor weapon suite for offshore patrol vessels, corvettes, light frigates and amphibious assault ships.

The Royal Danish Navy is the launch customer for the SMART-S Mk2 volume search radars ordering two radar systems for its Flexible Support Ship (FSS) program. The order was announced on December 23, 2002. The first radar set was scheduled for delivery by the end of 2006. Factory acceptance test was completed in early 2007. The first radar set will be delivered to HDMS Absalon in 2007. So far, Thales Naval Systems has received orders for nine SMART-S Mk2 radars.
