Origin: France
Contractor/s: Thales Naval Systems
Description: The TSM2022 MK3 is a modular mine hunting sonar developed by Thales Naval Systems for installation on mine countermeasures vessels (MCMV). The sonar system provides detection and classification of bottom and moored mines in the littoral and continental waters. The TSM2022 mine hunting sonar has been demonstrated against all-known mine types already in service or projected. To date, the Navies of France, Belgium, Netherlands and Norway have ordered this sonar system for their mine countermeasure vessels.
The TSM2022 is provided with several operation modes to be used concurrently for exceptional redundancy. Using multiple detection and classification frequencies translates into enhanced reliability in all operational conditions. The TSM2022 utilizes both optimized shadow and image classification methods with enhanced computer processing to achieve a correct classification. A height finding sonar is provided for classification of moored mines tethered to the bottom from safe ranges (approx. three times distance compared to conventional classification sonar).
