Description: The EgyptSat-1 was a Earth observation satellite developed, built and placed into orbit by Russia on behalf of the government of Egypt. The EgyptSat-1 spacecraft was launched in 2007 as a pilot project for a future state-of-the-art observation system. The spacecraft was retired in 2010. The EgyptSat-2 is an advanced Earth Observation satellite developed, built and placed into orbit by Russia on behalf of the government of Egypt. The Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite weighs 1,050 kg and is fitted with high resolution cameras to capture images in the visible and infrared spectrum. The observation system also includes a ground segment for imagery exploitation. The EgyptSat-2 spacecraft offers imagery with up to 1 meter accuracy and a service life of 11 years. Satellite data are used in agricultural, geological, and environmental studies. The first satellite of this type was launched from Baikonur on April 16, 2014. Egypt is negotiating with Russia the sale of a second spacecraft.
