Description: The Meridian is a Russian advanced military communications satellite designed as the replacement for Molniya-series spacecrafts. Besides, Meridian also provides communications, navigation and surveillance services for civilian customers. The first Meridian communications satellite was placed into orbit by a Soyuz-2 rocket from Plesetsk space center, Russia, on December 24, 2006. A Soyuz-2 space launch system placed the Meridian 2 spacecraft into orbit also from Plesetsk on May 22, 2009.
