Description:
The Polyphem is an innovative optical fiber guided missile designed to fulfill multiple missions. It is a missile with a camera in the nose, connected to a guidance station by an optical fiber. The wire (optical fiber) means that the Polyphem missile can not be jammed and provides real time target area imaging (video observation) reducing collateral damage. This guidance system also provides accuracy of 1 meter and allows to perform maneuvers and retargeting remotely in real time via the wire.
The Polyphem has also been designed to perform with automatic operation mode with the operator as a "man in the loop" selecting and adjusting the final impact point.
The Polyphem is an artillery weapon for naval and land forces that will be able to carry out missions typically requiring the assessment of ground forces close to the target area. It can be fired from ground vehicles, ships, and helicopters. The Polyphem missile has a multipurpose warhead and an imaging infrared sensor to operate day and night, and all-weather conditions.
