Description:
The Mirage 2000 is a delta-wing, single engine, multi-role aircraft designed to provide air defense, deep strike, nuclear deterrence, reconnaissance and close air support for the French Armed Forces. It can accommodate a wide range of weapons and electronic equipment in accordance with the mission profile. It features two DEFA 554 30mm guns mounted internally.
The Mirage 2000 is the last member of the successful French Mirage fighter aircraft family. It was deployed in 1983 by the French Air Force and since then it has been purchased by many other countries all over the world such as Egypt, Greece, India, Peru, Qatar, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
Different variants of the Mirage 2000 aircraft were deployed successfully during the Gulf war and over the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. More than 526 Mirage 2000s have been sold worldwide.
The Mirage 2000-5 is the latest derivative incorporating a new advanced radar, the RDY, and advanced avionics. It is provided in twin-seat and single seat versions. It performs as a perfect multi-role aircraft with compatibility with the latest guided-precision weapons developed for the French Air Force. The French Air Force's Mirage 2000-5 will operate well into the 21st century, scheduled for replacement beginning in 2020.
The Mirage 2000-9 aircraft has been ordered by the United Arab Emirates with deliveries beginning in 2003. It is a customized version of Mirage 2000-5 adding some technologies developed for the Rafale aircraft.
