Description:
Lockheed Martin TB-34 is a towed sonar array developed as the replacement for the TB-16 acoustic sensor in the US Navy's submarine force. TB-34 NextGen provides improved anti-submarine warfare and contact avoidance capability in cluttered littoral environments. The US Navy's plans call for the TB-34 sensor to be integrated into Los Angeles, Seawolf and Virginia class submarines.
The US Navy awarded to Lockheed Martin the initial procurement contract for the TB-34 towed array December 2006. The contract valued at $9 million is for the supply of five TB-34s through December 2009 and the provision of crew training, engineering services and technical support to the Navy. Production options could bring the total value of the contract to $47 million for up to 74 TB-34s and 52 array interface hardware units.
