Description: AgustaWestland AW149 is a 7-8 ton class twin-engine, multi-role battlefield helicopter designed to meet the high demanding requirements of military and government customers. AW149 launch announcement was made at Farnborough air show in July 2006. The aircraft will be able to carry up to 15 fully equipped troops in crashworthy seats and will use a 5-bladed main rotor yielding low vibration and low noise levels and having a cruise speed of 160 knots. Externally, the AW149 could be equipped with guns, rockets, missiles, and other weapon systems to meet a wide spectrum of combat support roles. In addition, this aircraft would assume search and rescue, command and control, medical evacuation and external load lifting roles.
AW149 fully integrated avionics includes large area active matrix liquid crystal displays, a 4-axis AFCS and an integrated Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS). For enhanced survivability the AW149 will be provided with a crashworthy airframe and redundant flight systems. A heavy duty wheeled tricycle landing gear will allow operations from unprepared surfaces while providing easy maneuverability on the ground. The fuel tanks are located behind the main cabin allowing for ample ground clearance and low cabin floor. Its turboshaft engines will be rated at approximately 2,000-shp. The aircraft may be operated by one or two pilots accommodating from 12 to 15 passengers.
