Description: The Embraer ERJ 145 AEW&C, originally known as RJ-145SA or R-99 A, is an affordable Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft developed in cooperation by Embraer, airborne platform, and Ericsson Microwave (now Saab Microwave), Erieye surveillance radar system. The AEW&C aircraft key element is the Erieye active phased array side looking surveillance radar which features a detection range of up to 300 km for fighter-sized airborne targets and maritime surveillance mode. In addition the aircraft is provided with IFF secondary radar and a highly automated network command and control system. The ERJ 145 AEW&C program was launched in the late 1990s. Brazil and Greece (EMB-145H) ordered five and four such aircraft.

In February 2005, Embraer and the Indian Defense, Research and Development Organization (DRDO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of a new Indian Air Force Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system. Embraer and the Indian DRDO will jointly develop the new system based on the EMB 145 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform. A contract for three of such aircraft was expected for the development phase with further orders following after development completion. The first ERJ 145 Netra was delivered to the Indian Air Force on February 15, 2017.
