Description: The KC-390, originally known as the C-390, is a potential military transport aircraft, under study by Embraer, based on the proven technologies of Embraer 170/190 regional jets. The KC-390 would be capable of performing air refueling and medical evacuation in addition to the transport role. Embraer unveiled the KC-390 project at LAAD exhibition in Rio de Janeiro April 2007. The twin-engine, medium-sized aircraft would carry up to 19 tons of cargo in its wide cargo compartment. A rear ramp would allow rapid loading/unloading. Its range may be extended through air refueling while being capable of delivering fuel to other aircraft.
According to Embraer, if launched, the KC-390 aircraft will feature fly-by-wire and will operate from unpaved/unprepared short runways without the need of ground facilities. The KC-390 tanker transport aircraft program was launched by Embraer and the Brazilian Air Force in April 2009 at LAAD exhibition. The aircraft is expected to enter service in 2015. In August 2010, Inaer of Chile started negotiations with Embraer for the development of the aircraft with the Chilean Air Force to procure six KC-390s.
