Description: The Russian Air Force PAK TA is a new generation strategic transport aircraft being developed as the replacement for existing Il-76 and An-124 cargo airplanes. According to the Military-Industrial Commission in Moscow, the PAK TA will carry from 80 to up to 200-220 tons of cargo at distances of at least 7,000 kilometers at a supersonic cruise speed of 2,000 kilometers per hour (kph). The Russian Armed Forces is to airlift an armored force of 400 Armata T-14 tanks or 900 medium armored vehicles anywhere on the globe within seven hours. The PAK TA freighters will be multilevel, with automated cargo loading and have the capability to airdrop hardware and personnel on any terrain. Externally the new aircraft follows a blended wing body (BWB) design with three turbofan engines and a rear cargo door. The Russian Air Force expects to field the first of 80 new strategic transports starting in 2024. The PAK TA program existence was revealed in March 2015. The PAK TA program may envisage a family of aircraft rather than only one model.
