Description: The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Y-20 is a turbofan-powered, strategic heavy transport aircraft which China's Xian Aircraft Corporation has been working on since 2005. The 200-ton, four-engine aircraft resembles externally the US Air Force C-17A Globemaster III aircraft and the Russian Air Force Il-76 airlifter. The Y-20 prototype is powered by Russian made D-30 turbofan engines which also powers the obsolete Russian Il-76 transport aircraft. China may develop new turbofan engines to power the series production Y-20 airlifters. The existence of the Y-20 airplane was revealed in late December 2012 with a photo of the aircraft on the ground in east-central China and later confirmed by the Chinese Ministry of Defense.
