Description: The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Zhi-20 or Z-20 is a new generation helicopter being developed to serve as military transport aircraft as well as disaster relief and humanitarian rescue helicopter. The Z-20 aerodynamic configuration and external shape is very similar to the US Army's H-60 Blackhawk helicopter. The new rotorcraft may enter service with the PLA by 2015 or later. The aircraft features fly-by-wire (FBW) technology making thus the aircraft more lightweight and maneuverable. The Z-20 aircraft prototype performed its maiden flight on December 23, 2013, and was introduced into service by late 2018. Several variants are expected to be deployed by the PLA branches between the late 2010s and early 2020s.

The Z-20F is the naval variant of the Z-20 medium-lift helicopter and is expected to be deployed by the PLA Navy (PLAN) onboard its new Type 055 destroyers and new aircraft carriers. The Z-20F helicopter designed to perform anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions could be provided to the Type 052D destroyers as well. The Z-20F helicopter is estimated that entered service in late 2019.
