Javelin

Origin
United Kingdom

Applications
CVR-T

Description: Javelin is a man-portable, short-range air defense weapon system. It was intended to provide protection to British infantry against airborne threats such as fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft flying below 3,000-ft (1,000 meters). In addition, Javelin may serve as an air defense system for fixed locations against low altitude attack aircraft. It can be integrated onto ground vehicles such as the Spartan or Land-Rover.

Its guidance system is based on Semi-Active Command-to-Line-Of-Sight (SACLOS) principle. Javelin evolved from Blowpipe air defense system used within the British Army. Beginning in the late 1990s Javelin is being replaced by more capable High Velocity Missile (HVM) Starstreak produced by Thales UK.
