The QW-3, QianWei-3, is a man-portable, shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile (SAM) derived from the QW-1 missile. The QW-3 missile features a solid rocket booster allowing for a longer range and increased warhead capacity. The QW-3 guidance system consists of a nose-mounted semi-active laser seeker. The missile is provided with a blast-fragmentation warhead. The Q-3 is capable of shooting down aerodynamic targets flying at altitudes between 4 and 5,000 meters and at ranges between 800 and 8,000 meters. The QW-3 missile system was deployed by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the early 2000s.
