Description: The QW-4, QianWei-4, is a man-portable, shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile (SAM) featuring a nose-mounted infrared seeker with improved jamming resistance. The missile is fitted with a laser-based proximity fuze and a blast-fragmentation warhead. The Q-4 is capable of shooting down aerodynamic targets such as aircraft and cruise missiles flying at altitudes between 4 and 4,000 meters and at ranges between 500 and 6,000 meters. The QW-4 missile system may achieve initial operational capability with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) by 2007.
