Trishul
Origin India
Program Status: Cancelled
|
Description:
The Trishul is a short-range surface-to-air missile developed by the Indian Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Ministry of Defense to defeat a wide range of airborne threats. The missile is being designed as part of a low-level, quick-reaction air defense system for the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. As of May 2007, the missile development was being plagued by poor performance of 3-beam guidance and millimeter wave components. The Indian Armed Forces joint services are reluctant to accept the Trishul and may be considering a foreign solution instead.
In September 2008, India ordered 18 Spyder air defense systems worth $260 millions from Rafael of Israel. This decision marks the cancellation of the Trishul low-level quick reaction missile system.
