Description: Eurocopter AS 365/SA 365 Dauphin, Dolphin in English, is a medium-weight twin-engine helicopter available for both commercial and military customers. It was developed by Aerospatiale of France in the 1970s as the Dauphin 2 as a follow-on to SA 360/SA 361 Dauphin helicopter. It is equipped with a four bladed main rotor and a Fenestron shrouded tail rotor. AS 565 Panther designation refers to militarized Dauphin helicopters. It is powered by either two Turbomeca Arriel 1C or Arriel 2C turboshaft engines each rated at 749-shp.

The AS 565 Panther military version of Dauphin is suitable for fire support, Anti-Submarine (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) missions. It can be outfitted with AS15TT anti-ship missiles, searchlight, Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD), sonar, search radar, anti-tank missiles, gun pods, rockets, torpedoes etc. Panther was sold to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as the HH-65 Dolphin.

In 2003 Eurocopter and Mexico signed a contract for the purchase of two Panther helicopters powered by Arriel 2C engines each rated at 879-hp and options on eight more aircraft. The Mexican Navy was the end customer. They were procured to operate off ships and perform missions for the Coast Guard, as well as SAR, surveillance and drug enforcement operations and troop transport.

In October 2004 American Eurocopter was awarded a $124 million contract for the re-engining of 95 HH-65s with options on 84 additional aircraft. This re-engining program was expected to provide the Turbomeca Arriel 2C2 turboshaft engines to the entire HH-65 fleet by January 2007. Arriel 2C2 was selected because they offered more power and fully engine digital control. HH-65 powered by Arriel 2C2s are referred to as the HH-65C. HH-65C deliver improved performance compared with HH-65B.

Bulgaria ordered 6 AS 565 MB Panther helicopters for the Bulgarian Navy on January 28, 2005. These were intended to assume sea surveillance and search and rescue missions as well as anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare roles. The order also included 12 AS 532 AL Cougar for the Bulgarian Air Force and was valued at 360 million Euro.

India's operator PAWAN HANS placed an order for two Eurocopter AS 365 N3 Dauphin helicopters and two more options in New Delhi on December 15, 2005. These helicopter were intended to provide offshore services. Aircraft deliveries were scheduled for May 2006.
