Description:
The Kamov Ka-60 Kasatka, Killer Whale or Orca, is a multi-purpose helicopter designed to perform troops and cargo transport, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, surveillance, search and rescue, and training missions for military customers. The rotary wing system is based on a single five-bladed main rotor and a 11-bladed tail rotor. The whole helicopter has been designed to attenuate the effects of ground impact in the event of an emergency landing. In addition, the Ka-60 can be equipped with external gun pods to carry weapons.
The Ka-60 utility helicopter is powered by two new NPO Saturn RD-600V turboshaft engines. The cabin can accommodate between 10 and 12 airborne troops. Wide side doors allow for rapid loading/off-loading of cargo and personnel. The helicopter has been designed to keep on operation even with the rotor blades and other helicopters parts damaged operating at day/night and all-weather conditions. Redundant and armored sub-systems and lower radar, IR, and optical signatures help to achieve outstanding combat survivability.
The onboard equipment of the Ka-60 aircraft can be changed depending on the mission profile. The new helicopter can also operate from surface ships and eventually could replace existing Mi-8/17 and Ka-27 helicopters in service with the Russian Armed Forces. The Ka-60 for assault/transport is the basic version.
