Description: The Kawasaki OH-1 is a light, twin-engine observation helicopter developed as the replacement for the OH-6D within the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It is powered by two Mitsubishi TSI-10-M turboshafts each rated at 844-shp and enabling a top speed of 278 kph. The OH-1 helicopter features an airframe is made of composite material, integrated avionics, redundant hydraulic steering systems for enhanced survivability, reduced radar cross section, low silhouette, low noise rotor blades, and bulletproof cockpit and glass fitted with two tandem seats. The aircraft sensor package includes laser rangefinder, daylight color TV camera, and infrared camera to search for the enemy location at day/night and all-weather conditions. The OH-1 helicopter can be armed with four air-to-air missiles. The JGSDF had fielded 22 OH-1s by March 2006 with approximately 140 additional aircraft needed for replacing the remaining OH-6D helicopters.
