Description: The AN/TPQ-37 is a long range, S-band, mobile, combat-proven Firefinder radar system providing precise location information for counterfire. It can detect and report up to 10 artillery, mortars and rocket launchers sites in seconds at a maximum range of 50 kilometers. A rocket launcher can be located at a maximum range of 50 kilometers, while a howitzer can be located at a maximum range of 30 kilometers.

The AN/TPQ-37 stationary antenna creates an electronic radar curtain over a 90 area. Any target penetrating the curtain is detected, tracked and verified, while the system remains ready for another potential target. When location of long range surface-to-surface missiles is required, the TPQ-37 system can search a special 60 sector with extended range.

The TPQ-37 is always deployed in general support of divisional artillery or in direct support of a Multiple Rocket System battalion back in friendly territory. It is C-130 and C-141 aircraft transportable. The TPQ-37 antenna and generator is carried on a trailer and the control shelter can be installed on a HMMWV vehicle.

On 1 August 2005, ThalesRaytheonSystems - a joint venture between Raytheon and Thales - was awarded a $130 million contract to provide spare parts to support the TPQ-36 and TPQ-37 fire finder radars fielded by the US Army. Including this contract, the US Army has awarded $220 million to support both weapon locating systems. Deliveries of the 18,500 spare parts began in June 2005 and were expected to conclude by December 2007.
