Description: The AZK-7M, also known as 1B33M, is an automatic, passive sound ranging based artillery locating system intended to determine the position of both howitzers and mortar guns. The system has been designed to work within a battlefield network providing target position to field commanders in real time. A single AZK-7M system consists of a central point and three base points to triangular gunfire signals determine the source location. All these four elements are packed inside four Ural-43203 trucks (one central point and three base points). The only purpose of the central point is to process the data and information provided by the three base points. Each base point consists of two sound stations to be deployed on the terrain with each station equipped with three sound locators and power supply.
All in, a single AZK-7M artillery locating system can detect a mortar system at distance between 5 to 8 kilometers while a howitzer can be detected at ranges between 12 and 16 kilometers. A 122mm launch rocket system can be detected at ranges of 12-to-16 kilometers. A mortar detection error is 0.8-percent in range and 3-4-degree in azimuth while a howitzer is provided with 1-percent range error and 4-5-degree in azimuth. It can be deployed in 1-2 hours by a crew of at least 5-man while providing secure radio communications with external command centers at 20 kilometers. Typically, the AZK-7M system is able to locate an artillery source within 15 seconds.
