Description:
Cobra is a family of light armored vehicles based on the AM General HMMWV. Cobra is manufactured in Turkey for the Turkish Army and export customers. These vehicles feature low-silhouette, air-transportability, side and rear doors, and roof hatches. In addition it can fitted with a variety of roof mounted guns and weapons such as TOW anti-armor or Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. Cobra can be equipped with 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine guns, a 30mm cannon or a 40mm grenade launcher.
Cobra is powered by a 180-hp diesel engine allowing for a top speed of 100+ kph. Its steel armor and hull shape provide protection against land mines and small caliber ballistic impacts. This family of vehicles includes anti-aircraft variant equipped with Stinger missiles, anti-armor variant with TOW, NBC reconnaissance, ambulance, personnel carrier, reconnaissance amphibious vehicle, fire support vehicle fitted with guns, ground surveillance radar carrier etc.
To date, Cobra multi-role armored vehicles have been ordered by Turkey and Maldives.
