Description: The Hawkei is a 7-ton, 4x4 tactical light protected vehicle developed by Thales Australia to meet the requirements of the Australian Department of Defence's LAND 121 Phase 4 program. The LAND 121 Phase 4 program is aimed at acquiring 1,300 new light protected vehicles to replace the current Land Rover fleet. The Hawkei features open architecture and systems integration capabilities, as well as the ability to accommodate the future system demands of adaptive campaigning. The vehicle's design is aimed at offering the highest protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mines and small arms ambushes thanks to its V-shaped monocoque hull and Plasan composite armor. Besides, the vehicle can be provided with a variety of weapons such as 40mm automatic grenade launcher, Javelin anti-tank missile and/or 12.7mm, 7.62mm or 5.56mm machine guns.

The Hawkei with a seating capacity for five or six is available in two versions with four and two doors to serve as command, reconnaissance, liaison and utility vehicle. This high mobility vehicle is powered by an Steyr 3.2l six cylinder turbocharged M16 SCI 200 kW / 268 hp rated 4,000 rpm and torque of 610 Nm/450 ft lb rated at 2,000 rpm Euro V compliant engine. The engine allows a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour (kph). The Hawkei can be airlifted by C-130 sized airplanes and CH-47F helicopters. On October 5, 2015, Australia ordered 1,100 Hawkei tactical vehicles worth AUD$1.3 billion and deliveries due to begin by mid-2017.
