Description: The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is a family of light multi-purpose vehicles designed as a replacement for the US Army and US Marine Corps HMMWV vehicles having greater payload and higher survivability. Furthermore, JLTV will provide power supply for on-board and outside components while the engine is on or during extended silent watch. Additional requirements include: network-enabled, air transportability, high mobility and affordability. After 2010 only AM General, Lockheed Martin and Oshkosh Defense were bidding for the JLTV program. All in, the JLTV may represent the procurement of 55,000 tactical vehicles from 2016 through 2040 worth $30 billion. As of August 2015, the US Army has a requirement for 49,100 vehicles and the US Marine Corps may need 5,500 units.
The US Army and US Marine Corps selected the Oshkosh JLTV proposal on August 25, 2015. Initial procurement of 17,000 vehicles valued at $6.7 billion is expected to be completed by August 2024. The US Marine Corps will take delivery of 5,500 vehicles and the US Army will receive the remaining 11,500 vehicles. The deal includes three (2016-2019) years of Low Rate Initial Procurement (LRIP) and five (2019-2024) years of Full Rate Procurement (FRP). The Oshkosh JLTV provides the ballistic protection of a light tank, the underbody protection of an MRAP-vehicle, and top class off-road mobility traveling at speeds 70 percent faster over rugged terrain than the M-ATV MRAP vehicle. The platform combines Oshkosh CORE1080 crew protection and TAK-4i independent suspension. The JLTV-CCWC is a four-seat variant designed as a Close Combat Weapons Carrier.
