Lion

IOC: 2007

Origin
United States of America

Contractor/s
Force Protection Inc

Description: The Lion is a multi-mission armored vehicle featuring mine protection and advanced armor developed by Force Protection as a potential replacement for the United States Army Humvee. Lion would be faster, quieter and lighter than Cougar H Series. Blast, ballistic and mine protection would be standard equipment with a new radiological protection envisaged to withstand effects of dirty bomb detonation (a dirty bomb is made of radiological material but is not a fission or fusion bomb nor yielding huge energy).

As of October 2005 the first Lion prototype was expected being unveiled during 2006. If Lion is selected for Humvee replacement that would mean around 160,000 vehicles to be produced in the next two decades.
