Description: The Mountain Lion is a 4x4 high mobility armored utility vehicle designed by Rolling Stock Division (RSD) as a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) platform capable of operating in mountainous and rough terrain. It is air transportable without preparation inside C-130-sized aircraft. The new utility vehicle is intended to complement the Husky Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector (VMMD) also designed and manufactured by RSD. This powerful graceful, agile and adaptable vehicle is equipped with a roof-mounted shielded firing post making it suitable for peacekeeping and law enforcement operations as well as multiple roles on the battlefield. The shielded firing post can be replaced by a CROWS/Protector remote weapon station. As of July 2010, RSD had built two prototypes to test the vehicle's crew survivability, endurance and outstanding payload.

The Mountain Lion incorporates a single piece V-shaped armored hull for maximum protection against mine and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) blasts and small caliber conventional ammunition impacts. It is compliant with NATO STANAG 4569 level 3 ballistic protection. The vehicle's crew consists of two-man (driver and gunner) plus eight fully-equipped soldiers all them sitting on blast attenuating seats. The Mountain Lion is powered by a 300-hp diesel engine and utilizes the same combat proven four-wheel steer system introduced on the VMMD incorporating Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS). It is operable in extreme climates with the temperature range between -32 Celsius to + 57 Celsius. An automatic fire extinguisher system enhances the vehicle's survivability. The use of commercial off the Shelf (COTS) components has been maximized to reduce the Mountain Lion acquisition and ownership costs.
