Description: The MK48 Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System (CBASS) is the next generation of Mark 48 heavyweight torpedo. In June 2004, Raytheon was awarded a $70 million ($500 million with all options exercised) multi-year contract covering deliveries of 111 MK48 ADCAP for the United States Navy and Australia (20), 51 MK54 torpedoes and provide support for the MK48 CBASS engineering and initial production.

In late June 2006, the Australian Ministry of Defense gave the approval for the MK 48 ADCAP CBASS heavyweight torpedo to enter full rate production. HMAS Waller was the first Collins-class submarine to be modified to handle and fire the MK 48 Mod 7 torpedo with initial sea trials planned for mid-2007.
