Description:
BMP-1 is a full tracked, amphibious, armored personnel carrier intended to transport eight-infantryman anywhere on the battlefield. NATO called this armed vehicle the M-1967. It is equipped with turret-mounted weapons such as anti-armor missiles and a 73mm caliber gun with an automatic loader allowing for a crew of three. Its low silhouette translates into enhanced survivability. All in BMP-1 provides greater firepower and performance than its western counterparts like the M113 APC. However, BMP-1 armor was proved not enough thick to withstand medium-caliber ballistic impacts in the 1970s during Arab-Israeli wars.
