Description: The BMP-3 is a tracked, NBC-protected, Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) designed to transport infantry troops protected under armor and to engage on the move enemy troops, armored vehicles, low-flying helicopters, materiel and fortifications. The BMP-3 is the last member of Soviet BMP family of armored vehicles

The BMP-3 powerplant is located in the rear compartment, gunner and commander are located in the turret, the driver is in the front compartment with 2 infantry troops and the remaining infantry troops are accommodated in the rear compartment separated from the engine compartment by a bulkhead. Doors and hatches are located to allow quick mounting and dismounting the vehicle. Its hull is made of armored aluminum plates with spaced steel-aluminum in the frontal sector.

The BMP-3 features enhanced cross country mobility and a water jet propulsion system for amphibious operations. Its lightweight hull design enables BMP-3 to be airlifted easily by C-130 Hercules- or Antonov An-12-sized military tactical transport aircraft.

The BMP-3M is an upgraded infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) jointly developed by KBP and Kurganmashzavod based on the Soviet BMP-3 IFV. The resulting vehicle features enhanced firepower, mobility, protection and ergonomics resulting in higher combat efficiency. The improved fire control system consists of SOZH gunner's sight with an integrated laser rangefinder and an anti-tank missile guidance channel; Vesna-K sighting system with a thermal imaging camera and AST-B automatic target tracker; TKN-AI day/night vision device for the commander; a ballistic computer; and an stabilized mount for the 2A70 and 2A72 guns.

The BMP-3M is powered by an UTD-32T turbocharged diesel engine rated at 660-hp which is fully adapted for operation in hot climate conditions due to its cooling system. The driver features a TVK-1 day/night vision device improving driving capabilities at night. The vehicle's ergonomics improvement focuses on an automatic loading mechanism for anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and air conditioning which allows for operations in temperature ranges from -50 to +50 Celsius.

The BMP-3M enhanced protection comprises add-on armor plates offering protection against 12.7mm armor piercing ammo, Shtora-1 laser-guided weapons countermeasures, explosive reactive armor (ERA) kit, and Arena-E defensive aids suite. The Arena-E defensive aids suite provides protection against guided and unguided anti-tank missiles and grenades. The Shtora-1 protection system is designed to jam laser guidance systems used by anti-tank missiles and artillery sub-munitions. The 4,000-kg ERA kit is intended to counter anti-tank missiles with hollow charge warhead and 12.7mm armor piercing projectiles.
