ZBD2000

IOC: 2005

Origin
China

Applications
Type 071

Description: The ZBD2000 is an amphibious assault vehicle developed to meet the requirements of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The fully-tracked ZBD2000 entered service in mid-2000s with the PLA Marine Corps. Compared to Western amphibious assault vehicles, the ZBD2000 has greater firepower thanks to its 105mm gun but poor performance at sea. Externally, it looks like the US Marine Corps Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV). The ZBD2000 vehicle represents a significant step in the PLA's building up of an amphibious assault capability.

The ZBD2000 has been designed to be launched from a carrier ship at more than 10 kilometers from shore. Powered by two water jets the vehicle cruises at 25 knots carrying a crew of four-man and seven to ten fully equipped troops. The vehicle has been equipped with a turret-mounted 105mm recoilless gun, a roof-mounted 12.7mm anti-aircraft cannon and a 7.62mm co-axial machine gun. The 105mm cannon is replaced by a 30mm cannon in an Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) version of ZBD2000.
